Drag a sidebar folder to a pane's edge to split

Drag a folder from the sidebar to the edge of a pane: it opens in a new pane on that side. Drop it after a pane's tabs instead to open it as a tab.

Recorded in FileOctopus on demo files. No audio. Use the full-screen button to watch it larger.

How to do it

  1. Drag a folder from the sidebar towards the edge of a pane.
  2. The edge lights up and the half where the new pane will go is shown.
  3. Drop it: the folder opens in a new pane on that side.
  4. To open it as a tab instead, drop it after the pane's tabs or on its + button, as in Finder.
