This development guide describes implemented interfaces. It does not certify release readiness or complete Finder parity on every supported OS.
Implemented feature families
Four browsing views, navigation, selection, view preferences, tabs and nested panes, named workspaces, preview/Get Info, ordinary production file operations, tags, scoped Find, filename indexing, supported natural-language metadata queries, opt-in content/OCR, saved searches, Shelf, and batch rename are represented in current code. See the corresponding guides for operating limits.
Implemented with narrower availability
- Rotate/Trim/Create PDF/Convert Image transforms: disposable fixture runs only. Markup delegates to Preview.
- File operations: production path in normal Release; Debug requires explicit launch configuration. Real-volume and provider scenarios still need release verification.
- Undo: conditional on supported reversal and identity checks; multi-source Shelf moves have no Undo.
- Conflict resolution: no folder merge and no Replace for folders/packages.
- Shelf: references per window/session; no Quick Look/Open, drag out, or recursive folder size totals.
- Content/OCR: per-folder opt-in, supported local formats and bounded extraction; no semantic similarity search.
- Source search: existing origin metadata only, with no service account connection.
- Search settings: root approval/removal controls; no general exclusion-pattern editor.
- Tag editing: unavailable directly in search results.
Not available in this build
Linked-pane navigation, folder compare/sync, duplicate finding, remote SFTP/WebDAV/S3/R2 clients, AI rename/organize, semantic similarity search, a general command palette, ShiftPlus integration, and custom folder appearance editing are not offered as finished features.
Computer/This Mac browsing, Network browsing, and Connect to Server are not working browsing destinations. The This Mac search scope is a separate implemented feature that covers approved search roots. A disabled Go command is not a substitute for those destinations.
Spring-loaded folder navigation is not documented as an available capability. A folder accepting a drop does not by itself mean hover-to-navigate is implemented.
Checks beyond this guide
Human checks remain necessary for supported OS families, VoiceOver/Full Keyboard Access, real Finder clipboard and drag round-trips, cloud placeholders, real Trash/Put Back, cross-volume interruption/power loss, and signing/notarization. A passing fixture demo or screenshot does not establish those release gates.
FileOctopus targets macOS 15 and later on Apple Silicon and preserves the system Finder. This site makes no download, pricing, release date, or broad performance guarantee.
