Find duplicate files and keep one copy PRO

Right-click folders and choose Find Duplicates… to see every group of identical files. Pick a Keep rule and move the extra copies to the Trash. Scanning is free.

Recorded in FileOctopus on demo files. No audio. Use the full-screen button to watch it larger.

How to do it

  1. Select one or more folders, then right-click and choose Find Duplicates…, or choose File ▸ Find Duplicates….
  2. Each group lists its copies, where they are and how much space they take.
  3. Pick a Keep rule (In the First Folder, Oldest, Newest or Shortest Path), or check the copies yourself. One copy of each file always stays.
  4. Click Move Copies to Trash. Every copy is checked again just before it moves, and Edit ▸ Undo puts them back.
  5. Scanning is free; choosing copies and moving them to the Trash need FileOctopus PRO.
