⌃⌥⌘→ splits right and ⌃⌥⌘↓ splits down. ⇧⌘Return zooms the focused pane; press it again to bring the others back.

Recorded in FileOctopus on demo files. No audio. Use the full-screen button to watch it larger.

How to do it

  2. Each new pane browses on its own: open any folder in it.
  3. Press ⇧⌘Return to zoom the focused pane to the whole window.
  4. Press ⇧⌘Return again to bring the other panes back.
  5. Use ⌃⌥⌘= to make all panes the same size, or ⌃⌥⌘W to close the focused pane.
