A native macOS file manager with familiar browsing, flexible panes, and search you can inspect.
Find files using natural language
Try screenshots last week, videos larger than 1 GB, or downloaded from github. FileOctopus turns supported phrases into visible kind, date, size, and source filters. Check the chips to see exactly what your search means.

This is local, rule-based interpretation of supported phrases. It does not understand arbitrary requests or search by semantic similarity.
What you can do
- Browse in Icon, List, Column, or Gallery view, expand folders in a list, sort and group files, and use familiar keyboard selection.
- Arrange nested panes and tabs, move between folders without losing your place, and save named workspaces.
- Copy, move, rename, duplicate, and trash files with conflict choices, operation feedback, and supported Undo.
- Preview and inspect files with Quick Look, live previews, Get Info, tags, and source metadata.
- Search a folder, open panes, or approved indexed locations; opt into file contents and text in images per folder.
- Collect file references on the Shelf, preview batch renames, and save searches in the sidebar.
About this guide
This guide describes the current development build, not a signed public release. FileOctopus targets Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 15 or later. Cross-version, accessibility, real cloud-provider, and real-volume safety checks remain part of release validation.
Features with narrower availability are called out where they appear. In particular, image/video transforms remain fixture-only; network clients, semantic AI search, and folder synchronization are not available. See current limits and feature status.
Watch: turn a phrase into filters
A real Find session: combine kind, date and size, broaden the query by removing a chip, then try recorded origin and a supported Vietnamese phrase.
Recorded in FileOctopus using fictional files. No audio. Playback is 1.25×. GitHub origins are synthetic metadata in the demo files; no account is connected. Result counts depend on the fixture and recording date.
Read the demo steps
- In Find, use This Mac, which is restricted to the fixture's approved folder in this recording.
- Enter ‘pdfs from last week over 5 mb’. The app creates PDF, Last week and > 5 MB chips. This fixture has no matching files.
- Open the size chip menu and remove that condition. ‘pdfs from last week’ returns seven matching fixture files.
- Enter ‘downloaded from github’. Two files with recorded GitHub origin appear.
- Enter ‘tệp PDF tuần trước’. The PDF and Last week chips return the same seven files as the English date-and-kind query.
